The CSM Cycling Team is pumped that you’re looking to race this weekend! First off, we’ll walk you through each event and what you can expect:
- Lookout Mountain Hill Climb (Saturday) – This is an individual time trial, meaning that once every minute a rider will leave the start and make his/her way to the top of Lookout Mountain (the turn off for Buffalo Bill's Grave). The goal is to get up the 4.3 mile climb as fast as possible. After all the racers have finished, finish times are put in order to determine placement.
- Campus Circuit Race (Sunday) – This is a mass start event, meaning that groups of riders (based on categories/skill level) will leave the start at a specified time. They’ll race laps around the 3km course for a certain amount of time (see flier). Toward the end of that time period, riders will be notified of how many laps remain. The goal is to be the first across the finish line.
Here is the need to know info that will get you racing in no time:
- You need to have a road bike (whether it's yours, a borrowed one, or a rental)
- Apparel (applies only to student athletes): The governing body of collegiate cycling requires student athletes to have official team apparel or apparel with no logos. This means that your jersey and shorts need to be free of large logos other than ones affiliated with CSM.
- Categories for Collegiate athletes: Collegiate categories are A, B, and C. The A class is the fastest and is generally expert/pro racers. The C's are the group just getting into racing - we'd recommend this category if you've never raced before. B's are somewhere in between. You'll specify your category at registration.
- Categories for Staff: Staff members will need to enter one of our USCF categories. These range from Pro to Cat. 5. We recommend Cat 5 if you've never raced before. You'll specify your category at registration.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To get your FREE entry, visit our registration booth on the day of the event you wish to participate in - make sure to bring your Blaster Card! Registration will take place near the large pillars at the base of Lookout on Saturday, and near 17th and Illinois on Sunday. Note that you must register a minimum of 30 minutes before your category starts for the Circuit race.
In addition, we're awarding $300 if you can break the hill climb record, 16:02!
All of the official race information can be found here: www.CSMcycling.com. Also, the race flier (with start times) is located here: http://www.mines.edu/stu_life/organ/bike/OrediggerClassic2008.pdf
If you've got any questions about the race or anything above, shoot me an email: bturman@mines.edu
We'll see you out there this weekend!
